About the Authors

Marianne Markarian

Marianne Markarian is a second generation Armenian-American who lives in California and works as a freelance writer. Much of her writing interests focus on her grandparents’ survival of the Armenian Genocide. She received First Place honors for Juvenile Fiction at the 2003 Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference for The Pesky Bird, which is based on an anecdote from her grandmother’s life in Turkey in 1912.

Margaret Markarian Wasielewski

Margaret Markarian Wasielewski (Marge) is an award-winning artist who lives in Cincinnati, where she received her B.F.A. in 1986 and is an active member of the Cincinnati Art Club. Much of her work revolves around the Armenian genocide and the struggles of the Armenian people during that time. She exhibits regularly in the Cincinnati area at the Herman and Bessie Wessel Gallery, the Women’s Art Club, and the Pendleton. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Detroit, Cincinnati, Illinois, and Florida. The Illustrations for The Pesky Bird were done in pastels.
